Wale is letting the music do the talking, and this time, he's borrowing a little inspiration from one of 2025's biggest hits. The DMV rapper has returned to his freestyle roots with a new track that mixes heartbreak, personal reflection and his signature lyrical style, all over a familiar melody.

Wale Samples Olivia Dean's "Man I Need" for New Freestyle

On Wednesday (Sept. 30), Wale released "Talk to Me" through social media, sampling Olivia Dean's smash hit "Man I Need" and incorporating some of the British singer's vocals. The result gives Wale plenty of room to get personal, as he delivers lyrics about emotional struggles and the frustration of dealing with someone who appears to have moved on.

"I do understand, but what made me look stupid is you don’t look sad or nothing/Chilling and posting whatever/You nonchalant and all that I am, I suffer," Wale raps.

The freestyle arrives just months after the release of his eighth studio album, Everything Is a Lot, which features appearances from Leon Thomas, Nino Paid, Ty Dolla Sign and more. While the album gave fans plenty to enjoy, "Talk to Me" offers another look at Wale's ability to turn personal experiences into music.

Wale Opens Up About the Emotional Toll of the Music Industry

The rapper's latest release comes at a time when he has also been openly reflecting on the emotional weight of his career and the challenges of navigating the music industry.

On Monday (September 28), Wale shared a now-deleted post on social media in which he expressed frustration with the industry, his relationships and the pressure of maintaining a creative career. The rapper began his candid message with a simple admission:

"Oversharing. Journal entry..that I’ll probably delete.

Im sorry . I really apologize to ppl who pray and truly care about me … I genuinely believe u can’t be in this industry for more than a few years and have a proper lense on life .

Your friends be dying left an right . You desperately wanna stay creative . U wanna take care of ur ppl . The new ‘friends’ u make not ur friends at all…cuz this is a rat race on a hamster wheel. U wake up to praise and criticism … but it’s always more criticism. Unstable . So many ppl care and I can’t even embrace it sometimes cuz I’m in a perpetual state of uncertainty and skepticism."

The heartfelt message offered a glimpse into the difficulties Wale has experienced throughout his time in the music business. From losing friends to questioning new relationships, the rapper described the challenge of balancing his creative ambitions with the responsibility of taking care of the people around him.

Wale's openness about his struggles is not entirely new. The rapper has often used social media to share personal thoughts and frustrations, sometimes prompting strong reactions from fans and observers. While some have interpreted his posts as negative, they also reflect the human experiences that can exist behind a successful music career.

Wale's Personal Struggles Don't Overshadow His Musical Impact

Despite those challenges, Wale continues to receive plenty of love from his supporters. The acclaim surrounding his eighth studio album, Everything Is a Lot, is a reminder of the connection he has built with listeners throughout his career. His contributions to hip-hop and his distinct approach to storytelling have helped establish him as an important voice in the DMV rap scene.

Still, appreciation from fans does not mean the rapper has to keep his frustrations to himself. Like anyone else, Wale has the right to express how he feels, even when those feelings are difficult to share publicly. The music industry can bring recognition and opportunities, but it can also come with personal sacrifices and uncertainty.

Wale Gets Back to Making New Music

After deleting his post, Wale appeared to shift his attention back toward his creative work, sharing that he is making new music. His latest freestyle is another example of that focus, turning complicated emotions into something listeners can connect with.

With "Talk to Me," Wale is once again showing that his music can serve as an outlet for both his confidence and his vulnerability. Whether he's addressing heartbreak over Olivia Dean's soulful production or reflecting on the realities of fame, the rapper continues to let fans see different sides of who he is. And if his latest social media update is any indication, he has no plans to slow down creatively.
