Sia has agreed to sell a 50 percent stake in her music catalog to investment company Pophouse for $180 million, adding her name to a growing list of major artists who have secured nine-figure deals for their music rights.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, the agreement will pay $165 million directly to the singer, while the remaining $15 million will be placed in escrow due to an ongoing financial dispute with her estranged husband, Dan Bernad.
Sia's Divorce Plays a Role in the Deal
The catalog sale comes as Sia continues to navigate her divorce from Bernad, whom she filed to divorce last year. The two have also been involved in court proceedings over financial arrangements and child support for their son, who was born in 2024.
Sia recently agreed to pay Bernad $42,500 per month in child support after months of legal back-and-forth. As part of the catalog agreement, Bernad has agreed to waive any claim to the $165 million Sia will receive in exchange for a $1 million payment from the singer. This leaves Sia with $164 million from that portion of the deal.
However, the remaining $15 million, which is tied to songs Sia wrote during their marriage, remains unresolved. The money will be held in escrow until the former couple reaches an agreement on how to divide it. If they cannot settle the matter, they may have to return to court to resolve the dispute.
Sia Joins Artists With Major Catalog Deals
Sia's agreement follows several high-profile music catalog sales in recent years, as established artists have sold portions or all of their music rights for substantial sums.
Sony acquired Bruce Springsteen’s entire catalog for a reported $550 million, while Katy Perry sold a portion of her catalog to Litmus Music for $225 million. Justin Bieber also sold his music rights to Hipgnosis Songs Capital for about $200 million.
T-Pain also joined the list in 2025, reportedly selling his music catalog and select master rights to HarbourView Equity Partners for a rumored $100 million. During a recent Twitch stream, the artist cited declining streaming revenue and a desire to secure his children's financial future as reasons behind the sale.
Pophouse has also been expanding its music portfolio. Earlier this year, the company acquired a majority stake in Tina Turner’s music, along with the late superstar’s name, image, and likeness rights.
Pophouse Continues to Expand Its Music Portfolio
The Swedish investment company was co-founded by ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus and EQT founder Conni Jonsson. Its portfolio includes investments tied to artists such as Avicii, Swedish House Mafia, and Cyndi Lauper.
The acquisition of half of Sia’s catalog adds another internationally recognized artist to Pophouse’s growing collection of music rights. The company invests in established music catalogs and entertainment properties, aiming to generate long-term value from artists’ work and legacies.
For Sia, the $180 million agreement provides a substantial financial return while allowing her to retain a 50 percent stake in her catalog. While the $15 million in escrow remains a point of uncertainty, the deal marks another major catalog sale in an industry where music rights continue to attract significant investment.
