Diddy’s prison timeline has changed once again.

According to TMZ, the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate records list the Bad Boy Records founder as scheduled for release on Jan. 21, 2028, from a low-security federal correctional institution in New Jersey. That is a slight shift from earlier this month, when his projected release date was listed as February 2028.

For anyone who has been following Diddy’s case closely, this is hardly the first time his projected release date has moved.

Another Change to Diddy’s Release Date

Diddy, 56, was convicted last July on two Mann Act violations and was later sentenced to 50 months in federal prison. He quickly appealed the sentence and conviction, adding another layer to an already complicated legal story.

Now, the latest Bureau of Prisons records point to January 2028 as his projected release date. It is important to note that projected release dates can change, meaning the date currently listed is not necessarily set in stone.

The latest update comes as Diddy continues serving his sentence at a federal facility in New Jersey.

His time behind bars has also brought additional attention for reasons beyond the courtroom. This summer, Diddy was reported to have gotten into a fight with another inmate, which resulted in him being temporarily placed in solitary confinement.

When Complex reached out for comment at the time, a Federal Bureau of Prisons representative pointed to the agency’s policy against publicly discussing individual inmate conditions.

“For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not release information regarding the conditions of confinement for any inmate, including housing assignments, nor do we discuss whether a particular inmate is the subject of allegations, investigations, or sanctions,” a rep told the oulet at the time.

That means details about what happened inside the facility remain limited, with the Bureau of Prisons declining to publicly confirm information about Diddy’s housing situation or any alleged incident.

A New Book Arrives

The latest release-date update also comes at an interesting moment for the music mogul’s story.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, a new book about Diddy titled Bad Boy for Life: The Rise and Fall of Sean Combs hit shelves. The book takes a look at the rise and fall of the music executive, whose Bad Boy Records empire helped shape hip-hop and R&B for decades.

Diddy’s legal troubles have now become a major part of the public story surrounding his career. The latest change to his projected release date is another small but notable update in a case that has continued to make headlines.

For now, the Bureau of Prisons records list Jan. 21, 2028, as Diddy’s projected release date. Given how often that date has shifted, though, anyone keeping track may want to leave a little room on the calendar.
