Jackson Wang is saying thank you to his fans, and he is doing it with a new song, a fresh management deal, and a little help from Apple’s latest iPhone. The global artist has officially signed with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation for management, marking another major moment in a career that has already crossed music, fashion, business, and sports.
To celebrate, Jackson is rolling out the video for “Thank You,” his first taste of new music since joining the company. But this is not your typical artist-in-a-fancy-car music video. Jackson wanted the project to feel personal, bringing fans from across the world directly into the experience.
Jackson Wang Directs a Video Built Around His Fans
Jackson directed “Thank You” alongside Ojun Kwon, with the pair choosing to film the video in black and white using the new iPhone 18 Pro. The phone was unveiled at Apple’s latest event in Cupertino earlier this month, making its appearance in the video a timely showcase for the device.
Still, the technology was only part of the story. Jackson also invited fans from around the globe to join him on set. Applications came in from more than 80 countries before the group was narrowed down to 30 participants who earned the chance to appear in the shoot.
That international fan presence fits the message Jackson shared in a lengthy note on Instagram. For him, the video was about more than releasing music. It was another way to show what he believes artists owe the people who support them.
“I don’t need a middle person or a filter standing between me and my fans,” he wrote. “Because from day one, it has always been about me and my fans. I want to make sure my fans know as much as possible about who I am and what I am as a human being. There shouldn’t be guessing. There shouldn’t be assumptions.”
Jackson’s words make his approach clear. He wants his relationship with his audience to feel direct, without unnecessary distance between the artist and the people watching, listening, and showing up for him.
Roc Nation Welcomes a Multitalented Artist
The management signing places Jackson under the Roc Nation umbrella alongside major names such as ASAP Rocky, Clipse, Lil Uzi Vert, Megan Thee Stallion, and Rihanna.
For Roc Nation, Jackson’s appeal goes beyond his music. The company highlighted the different parts of his background and the drive that continues to shape his career.
“Before all this, Wang was a Junior Olympic-level saber fencer, and that competitive fire still burns through everything he touches,” Roc Nation reps said in a press release on Monday (Sept. 21), as reported by Hypebeast, when detailing Jackson’s numerous career milestones. “It's the spirit of someone who refuses categories: athlete, artist, entrepreneur, creative director. And there's no indication he's stopping anytime soon.”
That fencing background is an interesting part of Jackson’s story. Before becoming known around the world as a performer, he competed at a high level in the sport. Now, Roc Nation is pointing to that competitive background as part of what makes his creative work stand out.
The company's statement also reflects Jackson's work across multiple industries. He has developed a career that is not limited to recording and performing songs, with creative direction and entrepreneurship also playing a role in his public identity.
A New Chapter With “Thank You”
The release of “Thank You” arrives at a meaningful point for Jackson as he begins working with Roc Nation. Rather than introducing the partnership with a flashy announcement alone, he is using a song and a fan-centered video to establish the next chapter.
The decision to include 30 fans from different parts of the world gives the video a community-focused element, while the black-and-white visual style creates a more stripped-down presentation. Jackson's involvement behind the camera also keeps him closely connected to the creative process.
With a new management team supporting him and fresh music on the way, Jackson Wang appears ready to keep expanding what his career can look like. If his fencing days taught him anything, it may be that standing still is not really his style.
