Hayden Panettiere’s cause of death has been confirmed more than a month after the actress died at the age of 36.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office in South Carolina determined that Panettiere died from the toxic effects of fentanyl and several other substances. Her death was ruled an accident.

Panettiere died on August 16 after she was found unresponsive at an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina. Emergency responders were called to the residence after a report of cardiac arrest. Despite lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead that afternoon.

What the Coroner Report Found

According to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, Panettiere had fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol and quetiapine in her system.

Alprazolam is commonly known by the brand name Xanax. Methocarbamol is a prescription muscle relaxant, while quetiapine is a medication used to treat conditions including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder.

The coroner's office also said an autopsy found no signs of trauma that contributed to her death.

The Greenville Police Department has said its investigation is continuing. Panettiere's family spokesperson also described the case as complex.
