Morgan Wallen may receive plenty of requests to collaborate, but getting a feature from the country superstar is far from guaranteed.
The “Last Night” hitmaker recently opened up about his approach to collaborations, revealing that he has turned down plenty of projects over the years. His strategy is surprisingly straightforward: Wallen generally prefers working with people he already considers friends.
That helps explain why some of the same names keep popping up throughout his music, including HARDY, ERNEST and Eric Church.
Morgan Wallen Has Said “No” to Plenty of Collaborations
Wallen acknowledged that he's received plenty of invitations to appear on other artists' projects. But instead of accepting every opportunity that comes his way, he takes a selective approach.
“I’ve said no to a lot of projects,” Wallen explained. His reasoning comes down largely to familiarity. “For the most part, who is on my projects are people who are actually friends for me,” he said.
Friendship Usually Comes First
Wallen explained that most of the artists featured on his own records are people he already knows personally.
“But for the most part, it’s been my friends who I do songs with, and that’s usually who I choose to work with on their projects as well,” he said.
Still, the country superstar isn't completely opposed to collaborating with artists outside his inner circle. He explained that there have been occasions when he's simply been a fan of another artist and felt that a particular song would suit them. In those situations, Wallen or his team may reach out directly with a song and see whether the artist is interested.
“There's been a couple where I've just been fans of that other artist,” he explained, adding that he might have his team—or even contact the artist himself—to suggest a song.
Ella Langley Became a Recent Example
One of Wallen's most recent collaborations demonstrates how his approach can evolve naturally.
Wallen teamed up with Ella Langley on “I Can't Love You Anymore,” a track that became a major country-radio success in 2026.
The collaboration made sense beyond their music. Langley had previously joined Wallen on his I'm the Problem Tour, giving the two artists an existing connection before they recorded together.
By August, “I Can't Love You Anymore” reached No. 1 in country airplay.
