Drake clearly was not interested in making fans wait too long for another surprise. Just four months after dropping his May trifecta of albums, the Toronto superstar returned Tuesday night (Sept. 15) with FOMO, a little over an hour of new music, celebrity cameos, career throwbacks and plenty of Drake being Drake.

When the artist first announced plans for the “not so short film,” rap fans quickly filled social media with theories about what he might have planned. As it turns out, there was a lot to unpack.

Fear of Missing Out has some similarities to Drizzy’s ICEMAN livestream, which turned portions of a visual project into videos for songs from his HABIBTI and MAID OF HONOUR albums. But this time, Drake added a few more side missions to the adventure.

The film features appearances from Sexyy Red, Stunna Sandy, Drake’s mother Sandra Graham, NBA star Kevin Durant, model Winnie Harlow, Lena the Plug, his “goth baddie” and more.

And, naturally, Drake could not put together an event this big without slipping in some new music.

Nine New Songs and Some Big Collaborations

Throughout FOMO, Drake debuts nine new tracks, including unreleased collaborations with Don Toliver, PartyNextDoor and Yeat.

One of the biggest surprises is his long-teased collaboration with Don Toliver. The two artists have been dropping hints about working together for months, and things appeared to get more serious when Drake showed up at Don’s OCTANE World Tour stop in Toronto in August.

Drake joined Don onstage to perform ICEMAN cuts in an arena setting, giving fans another reason to wonder what the two had cooking. During FOMO, that mystery finally got a little clearer with the arrival of their anticipated collaboration, tentatively titled “Cold Shoulder.”

The film also gives fans another Drake and Yeat collaboration with “Miss My Dawgs.” Introduced by cinematic strings, the song looks back at friendships and the day-one people who can become harder to reach once fame changes everything.

Drake also reunited with his OVO running mate PartyNextDoor for an intoxicating track from the vault. About a year and a half after their $ome $exy $ongs 4 U collaboration album, the pair have apparently found another way to keep that partnership going.

Drake Gets His Country Moment

Drake has also been having a serious country moment lately, and FOMO continues that trend.

The 6 God has not been shy about being “an Ella Fella.” Earlier in September, he attended an Ella Langley concert and later teased a remix of her hit “Choosin’ Texas.”

Fans finally heard the full version during FOMO.

Drake interpolates Langley’s country anthem into the hook of his R&B-leaning track, bringing Don Toliver along for the ride. The result gives the song a woozy feel while showing once again how comfortable Drake is pulling inspiration from outside his usual lane.

He also adds another unreleased country-leaning track to the project, this time using electric guitar while reflecting on the vices that have left a mark on his life.

Apparently, the cowboy hat is optional.

A 2027 World Tour Is Coming

The biggest news outside of the music may have come after the Toronto premiere.

Drake revealed that he plans to hit the road again in 2027 for a world tour. The trek will mark his first North American tour since 2023.

“Obviously, tour is coming and there’s other things on the horizon, some big shows,” he said. “We’ll be out 2027 to see everybody again across the world… We’ll see you on tour soon.”

It is still unclear whether Drake will be taking over stadiums or sticking with arenas. His last U.S. trek was the 2023 It’s All a Blur Tour.

For now, the announcement feels less like the beginning of a brand-new Drake era and more like another care package for fans who have already received three albums this year.

Drake Brings Back Some Familiar Faces

FOMO is also packed with people who have appeared alongside Drake before.

Sexyy Red makes the first guest appearance in the film, and her appearance could easily double as a visual for their “Cheetah Print” collaboration from MAID OF HONOUR. She has been one of Drake’s biggest supporters, so seeing her pop up was hardly a shock.

Stunna Sandy also joins Drake for a tropical getaway. The pair enjoy oceanside drinks, boat rides and plenty of dancing while their HABIBTI collaboration “Outside Tweaking” plays.

The sequence feels familiar because it follows the same general idea Drake used with his ICEMAN livestream, where the visuals helped bring songs to life before the music landed on streaming services.

Drake’s mother, Sandra Graham, gets her own memorable moment too. Sandy Graham enjoys a girls’ night with two of her best friends before Drake joins them for dinner. The scene eventually becomes a visual for “True Bestie.”

And yes, Drake’s mom even showed off a new “ICEMOM” tattoo on his wrist.

Winnie Harlow and her sister also appear in FOMO, starring in the “True Bestie” visual without Drake.

The “Goth Baddie” Returns

Drake’s strange and hilarious 20-versus-one dating universe also gets another chapter.

Drake reunited with his “goth baddie,” Pinkchyu, who won his 20-versus-one speed-dating competition. The two go shopping at Hot Topic and even rent out Medieval Times, which becomes the visual setting for “Princess.”

It is exactly the kind of unexpected detour that makes FOMO feel more like Drake’s personal playground than a traditional music film.

Lena the Plug also returns after appearing in Drake’s 20-versus-one dating competition. This time, the adult film star plays the girl next door who comes over for a swim in Drake’s state-of-the-art pool.

Kevin Durant, meanwhile, makes an appearance while showing off an icy OVO owl chain. The NBA star has long been one of Drake’s famous friends and supporters, making his appearance another familiar face in the ever-growing Drake cinematic universe.

Drake as Tony Stark?

At one point, Drake apparently decided being a rapper was not enough.

For the “I’m Spent” visual, he throws on an authentic Iron Man suit while walking through the Toronto CNE fair with Loe Shimmy. Footage of Drake wearing the superhero suit had already surfaced earlier in September, so fans finally got to see where the unusual outfit fit into the bigger picture.

Drake is basically Tony Stark now. Apparently, someone had to fill the vacancy.

The film also gives fans a look at Drake wearing Charli xcx’s Brat merchandise. Within the first minute, he is shown moving around his Toronto estate while wearing a Brat merch T-shirt from the 2024 blockbuster album.

A Nod to His Past

One of the more nostalgic moments comes during “Miss My Dawgs.”

Drake travels to legendary locations from throughout his career, revisiting scenes and places connected to videos such as “God’s Plan,” “What’s Next,” “Hotline Bling,” “Started From the Bottom,” “Work,” “Headlines” and “Toosie Slide.”

The Take Care album cover restaurant also makes an appearance.

For longtime Drake fans, the sequence works almost like a quick tour through the rapper’s own history. It is a reminder of just how many different eras he has packed into his career.

He also revisits “Classic,” which originally landed as a standout on his HABIBTI album. The FOMO visual gives the song an extended slowed-down outro.

Drake Gets More Personal

There are also moments where Drake gets back into the emotional R&B mode that fans have come to expect from him.

One unreleased song welcomes the return of R&B Drake after heartbreak. “Every time somebody ties me down, somehow I become undone for real,” he sings.

The track could have fit comfortably on MAID OF HONOUR, but its appearance in FOMO also leaves open the possibility that Drake is already thinking about where his next musical chapter could go.

Another unreleased track takes a darker turn. Drake references the Gaza war on an island-tinged song, rapping, “Pray for Gaza.”

Drake was one of the early superstar artists to sign a petition calling for a ceasefire in Gaza back in 2023.

And Then There’s the Final Shot

Drake saves some of his most pointed bars for the end.

On an unreleased song played during the final credits, he takes aim at his detractors and appears to make a possible reference to Kendrick Lamar through wordplay.

“They tell me that my circle getting small huh/ But b—h we from the Dot, you can’t compare to us/ F–k all that circle s–t, I’m squaring up,” he raps.

Whether fans hear it as a Kendrick reference or simply another example of Drake talking his talk, the line gives the project a little extra fuel for the internet to debate.

He also shows off another impressive piece from his collection. Drake purchased 2Pac’s crown ring at a 2023 Sotheby’s auction for $1 million, and the ring appears during the FOMO stream.

“You know whose ring that is,” he rhetorically asked.

One More Surprise Before the Credits

The short film also features a remix of Drake’s hit “Janice STFU,” with OnlyHeaven adding some New Orleans bounce to the track.

That New Orleans influence fits naturally into a project that constantly jumps between Drake’s past, present and whatever he seems to be cooking up next.

Unfortunately for fans who wanted to replay every moment, Drake made FOMO private on his YouTube page after the short film debuted. However, some streamers and fans managed to give glimpses of the short film.

That leaves fans with plenty to talk about, though. Between nine unreleased tracks, surprise collaborations, celebrity cameos, career callbacks, and a 2027 world tour announcement, Drake managed to turn a little over an hour into a pretty busy night.

And while FOMO does not necessarily feel like the official start of another Drake era, it does make one thing clear: The Boy does not appear to be running out of ideas anytime soon.
