Celine Dion took the stage on Sept. 12 at Plénitude Arena in Paris. It was her first full concert in six years. The show marked the start of a 16-date residency after she stepped away because of Stiff Person Syndrome. "I had promised myself not to cry," Dion told the crowd, according to Variety. "But I'm so happy to see you all. I missed you. I'm going to sing, like you, without crying."

The French-Canadian artist opened with her 1990s French ballad, "On ne change pas." She told the audience she had made a vow to come back. The show lasted over two hours. Sixty percent of the song came from her French catalog. Across four decades, she's sold around 260 million albums in English and French. Big hits include "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" and "Because You Loved Me." International fame arrived in the 1990s with "The Power of Love" and other tracks.

In December 2022, she shared news of her diagnosis. Stiff Person Syndrome is a rare autoimmune disorder that triggers muscle stiffness and spasms. The condition has broken her ribs from intense cramps. She described the feeling as though someone is strangling her.

Dion made her stage return at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony. She sang Edith Piaf's "Hymne A L'Amour" by the Eiffel Tower. She announced her concert comeback on her birthday, March 30, at a celebration in front of the Eiffel Tower that included a choreographed light show. About nine million people signed up for advance tickets after that announcement.

Her Paris concerts were supposed to happen in 2020 as part of her Courage World Tour, but the pandemic forced a delay. Then, her health issues pushed things back again. The 2024 documentary, I Am: Celine Dion, directed by Irene Taylor, showed her fight against the illness.

Paris has thrown costume contests, karaoke parties, and tribute cruises on the Seine in celebration. The metro station near the concert venue was renamed Celine and decorated with her famous lyrics. Fans from across the globe have camped outside the Royal Monceau hotel, where she steps outside to greet them and sing with them. The residency includes 16 sold-out shows in September and October, with another 10 scheduled for May 2027.
