SZA and Vans are taking their upcoming collaboration beyond the shoe rack and into the streets of New York.

The Grammy-winning singer and iconic skate brand are teaming up for Vansza, a new footwear and apparel collection that will get an early spotlight during New York Fashion Week. Before fans can actually shop the collection, they will get a chance to step inside its world through a special activation on the Bowery.

The Vansza experience will open at 260 Bowery on Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. local time, giving visitors a first look at the creative universe surrounding the collection. The space will close at 8 p.m. that night, then reopen Sept. 11 at noon before officially wrapping up at 4 p.m.

So, basically, Vansza is here for a very short visit. Blink and you might miss it.

SZA Puts Her Personality Into the Collection

While the Vansza collection will not officially launch until Oct. 22, SZA said the project is closely connected to the way she lives and the things that inspire her.

In a statement, SZA described the forthcoming footwear and apparel as “a reflection” of her everyday life, interests, and creative energy.

“I wanted to create pieces that feel comfortable, functional, and expressive, whether you're on a trail, in the city, or discovering something new about yourself,” the seven-time Grammy winner said. “Working with Vans gave me the freedom to explore ideas rooted in creativity, curiosity, and play, and my hope is that people feel inspired to step outside their comfort zone, trust their instincts, and have fun making something uniquely their own.”

That description gives the collaboration a little more personality than your typical celebrity fashion drop. Instead of simply putting SZA's name on a pair of Vans, the collection appears designed around movement, comfort, creativity, and self-expression.

And honestly, that sounds pretty on-brand for SZA.

Vansza Is Just Getting Started

The first Vansza drop arrives Oct. 22, but fans will not have to say goodbye to the collaboration after that. More pieces from the collection are expected to arrive next April, giving the partnership a second chapter.

The collaboration also comes at an important moment for Vans. The brand celebrated its 60th anniversary earlier this year, and partnerships with major names in music and culture remain an important part of keeping the brand connected to new generations.

Earlier this year, blink-182 drummer and producer Travis Barker returned with his second Vans collection. Barker has previously explained just how far back his relationship with the brand goes, saying Vans were the “first pair of shoes” he ever owned. That history made his partnership with the company “an easy call” all around.

Now, SZA is bringing her own creative world into the Vans universe. With Vansza, the brand is leaning into another major music name while giving fans a chance to experience the collection before it officially hits shelves.

For anyone in New York during Fashion Week, the first stop is 260 Bowery. For everyone else, Oct. 22 is the date to circle. And if SZA's description is any indication, Vansza is aiming to be more than just another collaboration.
