Bad Bunny and Sabrina Carpenter grabbed their first Emmy Awards at the 78th Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sept. 5 and 6. The Puerto Rican superstar's Super Bowl LX halftime show collected seven trophies. Carpenter walked away with the award for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) as The Muppet Show's executive producer.
The Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny became the most-awarded halftime production in Television Academy history. The show claimed Outstanding Variety Special (Live), directing, music direction, choreography, lighting design, technical direction and camerawork, and sound mixing.
Bad Bunny received recognition as a producer and performer in the February production at Levi's Stadium. Jay-Z, who executive produced through Roc Nation, was among the other winners. The show featured appearances from Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. It included Puerto Rican imagery and large-scale choreography.
The seven-award sweep beat the previous record for a Super Bowl halftime production. The win for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) made the show only the second halftime performance to win the top program prize, following the 2022 halftime show featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent. It's the first Spanish-language program to take the category.
The Muppet Show premiered on Disney+ in February for the 50th anniversary of the original series. The special won four of its six nominations.
"Thank you @televisionacad. So incredibly proud of the whole Muppets crew on our Emmy wins," Carpenter wrote on Instagram. "A lot of love and happiness and hard work and diva fights went into making this special."
The special featured Carpenter as the celebrity guest star. She performed her song, "Manchild." Maya Rudolph and Seth Rogen also made guest appearances.
Both winners are now halfway to EGOT status. Carpenter has two GRAMMY Awards, while the recognition extends the growing influence of Latin music on American television.
The main 78th Emmy Awards ceremony will take place on Sept. 14 in Los Angeles. Mariska Hargitay will host the NBC broadcast.
