Sherri Shepherd is ready to make some Broadway magic!
The Emmy-winning actress, comedian and talk show host is joining Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway as the Genie. Her limited run begins October 16, 2026, and continues through January 3, 2027, at New York City’s New Amsterdam Theatre.
A Historic Role
Shepherd will make history as the first woman to play the Genie in Disney’s stage production of Aladdin. The role is one of the musical’s biggest crowd-pleasers, packed with comedy, energy and the iconic song “Friend Like Me.”
“Joining Aladdin on Broadway is an absolute dream come true and an incredible honor," said Shepherd. "The Genie is such an iconic character, and I’m beyond excited to bring my own energy, humor, heart, and a little bit of magic to this role. I hope audiences see themselves in this Genie and leave the theater feeling so much joy and inspired to believe in the impossible. To step on that stage as the first woman to ever play the Genie is something I don’t take lightly. I’m ready to rub the lamp, unleash some magic, and have the time of my life on Broadway.”
For Shepherd, the opportunity is especially meaningful. She previously appeared on Broadway as the Evil Stepmother in Cinderella. She also performed in the Off-Broadway productions Love, Loss, and What I Wore and Joy Behar’s My First Ex-Husband.
Shepherd is also known for her television work, including her time as a co-host of The View and her daytime talk show, Sherri. Now, she continues to thrive in the Broadway space.
Shepherd is preparing with dance and voice lessons and getting advice from Broadway veterans as she gets ready for the high-energy performance.
