Fourteen people were hospitalized Friday night after a series of medical emergencies broke out during a Chainsmokers concert at Discovery Meadow in San Jose, California.
The San Jose Fire Department received its first emergency call at 8:22 p.m. on Sept. 4, about three hours after the 18-and-over concert began. As the number of medical calls grew, firefighters brought in additional resources to help manage the situation.
According to ABC7 News, paramedics treated some attendees at the five-acre Guadalupe River Park venue before other concertgoers were transported by ambulance to area hospitals.
Police Cite Alcohol and Drugs
San Jose police confirmed the hospitalizations stemmed from "suspected alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues.” No fatalities were reported.
All 14 patients were ultimately transported to local hospitals. Authorities have not reported additional details about the conditions of those who were hospitalized.
The concert was part of the Chainsmokers' ongoing tour and was produced by Insomniac and Midnite Events.
The incident turned what was supposed to be a night of live music into a major emergency response, with local first responders treating multiple attendees and transporting 14 people for additional medical care.
