Strom Thurmond Lake on Sept. 26 from 8 a.m. to noon. This event marks National Public Lands Day, which is the nation's largest single-day volunteer event for taking care of public lands.
Families, groups, and people of all ages can join the cleanup. Volunteers will pick up trash and debris from shoreline areas and recreation sites nearby. The goal? Protect wildlife and keep the water clean.
People across the country work together on this day to improve parks, lakes, forests, and other shared outdoor spaces. The effort brings neighbors around the lake together to care for their local environment.
Suggested cleanup locations include Scotts Ferry Boat Ramp, Tarzan's Hole, Clarks Hill Day Use Area, Keg Creek Boat Ramp, Modoc Boat Ramp and Columbia Wayside at the base of Price Lake Bridge. Volunteers can also pick their own spot around the lake to gather litter.
Participants should wear outdoor-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. Gloves, trash bags, and other supplies will be provided to those who RSVP. These items will also be available at the J. Strom Thurmond Visitor Center.
Collected trash can be dropped off at the visitor center at 510 Clarks Hill Highway between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the day of the event.
To RSVP, contact Natural Resources Specialist Shelly Johnston at 864-333-1129.
