SZA Says New Music Is Coming

Fans have been waiting patiently for new music from SZA, and patience may finally be paying off.

The “Good Days” hitmaker has been relatively quiet on her main social media pages, but she has been keeping fans entertained on her finsta. The private account has become a favorite spot for SZA to connect with listeners and, perhaps more importantly, tease music that has not been released yet.

Recently, SZA shared a clip of an unreleased song. Naturally, fans had questions. One fan took the opportunity to make a heartfelt request in the comments.

“My year been hard,” wrote one fan in the comments, “please say you’ll return this winter.”

SZA had a simple answer.

“Indeed, I shall.”

That was enough to send fans into detective mode.

If there is one thing fans of SZA know, it is that the singer does not exactly rush the creative process.

Her debut album, CTRL, arrived in 2017 and quickly became an important project in modern R&B. Fans then had to wait five years for her next full-length album, SOS, which dropped in 2022.

Her most recent longform release came in 2024 with Lana, which served as a deluxe edition of SOS. While that gave fans more SZA to enjoy, it has also left them wondering when they will get a completely new chapter.

The good news is that SZA has hardly vanished from the music world.

In 2025, she joined Kendrick Lamar for the Halftime Show at Super Bowl LIX. She later hit the road with Lamar for the Grand National Tour, giving fans plenty of opportunities to see her perform even while waiting for another solo album.

This year, SZA has also popped up alongside artists including Isaiah Rashad and Steve Lacy. Those collaborations have been welcome surprises, but fans are still holding out for the big one: her third studio album.

And judging by those finsta snippets, SZA might have been cooking something up behind the scenes.

SZA has not revealed many details about her next album, but she did give fans a glimpse into what is motivating her new music.

In an interview with I-D published in March, the singer explained that the growing role of artificial intelligence in art has influenced her creative mindset. Rather than competing with other singers, SZA said she is more interested in pushing back against the idea of making art the easy way.

“I’m not up against the pop girls,” SZA said. “I’m not up against the R&B girls. I’m up against anti-intellectualism and doing things easy. The type of blend of information my human experience provides, AI can’t even be prompted to f**k with. I want to just let this angst drive me into bizarre directions.”

That certainly sounds like SZA.

The singer has never been afraid to turn complicated feelings, strange thoughts and raw emotion into music. If her next project follows that same path, fans could be in for something very different from what they have heard before.

For now, there is no official release date for the album. But between the unreleased snippets, her recent collaborations and that very confident “Indeed, I shall,” SZA has given fans plenty of reason to believe a return could be closer than it seems.

After making listeners wait this long, she might as well make the comeback worth the wait.
