Olivia Rodrigo’s Festival Raises $20M for Women’s Causes With Star-Studded Lineup and Activism Focus

Olivia Rodrigo pulled in $20 million for women's well-being with her Daisy Chain Fields festival on Aug. 29 in Irvine, California. The show brought a women-led lineup that included Chappell Roan, Doechii, and Bikini Kill to support women's health, workplace protections, and legal rights.

The pop star announced before the show that ticket sales, sponsorships, and performances by artists who waived their fees brought in $10 million. Ten nonprofit partners would receive those funds. Philanthropist Melinda French Gates pledged another $10 million through her Pivotal Ventures in a surprise appearance at the start of the headlining set.

"What Daisy Chain Fields sets in motion will last far beyond a single night, by opening up opportunity for women and girls around the world and showing a new generation how much their voices matter," said French Gates, the founder of Pivotal.

The $20 million will be split among Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Center for Reproductive Rights, FreeFrom, Jhpiego, Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, National Domestic Workers Alliance, National Institute for Reproductive Health, National Women's Law Center, and Planned Parenthood. The 23-year-old GRAMMY winner said that the artists and activists give her hope.

Lilith Fair inspired the event. That all-women show raised $10 million for charity from 1997 to 1999. Sarah McLachlan founded that tour to challenge the music industry's notion that they couldn't book women back-to-back. She performed with the singer on Aug. 29.

Performers also included Garbage, Mitski, Santigold, and the Breeders. The headlining set featured guest appearances from McLachlan, Alanis Morissette, and Stevie Nicks. Festivalgoers collected pins as they explored health services information and paid tribute to caregivers through different organizations.
