Taylor Swift Gives Phoebe Bridgers’ New Album a Big Birthday Boost

Taylor Swift had a big compliment for Phoebe Bridgers on her 32nd birthday.

On Monday, Aug. 17, the 14-time Grammy winner shared a post on Instagram Stories praising Bridgers’ new album, Lost Weekend, which was released Friday, Aug. 14.

“It’s her birthday but she gave us a gift,” wrote Swift who reshared Bridgers’ post about the album. “Haven’t been able to stop listening. This album is an absolute triumph in every way.”

Swift continued to praise Bridgers’ songwriting, writing, “To write about grief with such vulnerability and detail, and to trust the listener with this much honesty.”

She ended the birthday message with three simple words: “I love you,” she concluded.

The birthday praise is the latest moment in the musical friendship between Swift and Bridgers. The pair teamed up in 2021 on “Nothing New,” which appeared on Red (Taylor’s Version).

In a 2021 interview with Billboard, the singer called working with the “I Knew It, I Knew You” artist on the track a “dream.”

“I just am so excited to have people take it at face value the day that it comes out, because I got teary recording it. I just couldn’t be more excited,” Bridgers said at the time.

She added: “I think that she is an incredible businessperson and an incredible writer. What she’s been able to build just from writing adeptly from a young age is insane.”

Their collaboration later extended to the stage. Bridgers appeared as an opener on several of Swift’s Eras Tour dates in 2023.

Swift’s birthday message comes just days after Bridgers released Lost Weekend, her third studio album. The record’s focus on grief and vulnerability clearly connected with Swift, who specifically praised those qualities in her Instagram Stories post.

For Bridgers, though, the latest attention is centered on Lost Weekend, with Swift giving the new album a very public vote of confidence just days after its release.
