Ariana Grande Brings Cynthia Erivo Back for a Wicked Reunion

Ariana Grande surprised fans at London's O2 Arena on Aug. 16 when Cynthia Erivo joined her onstage during the latest stop of the Eternal Sunshine Tour.

The reunion brought the two Wicked stars together for a performance of "For Good" from Wicked: For Good. Grande and Erivo also performed "Happy Days" during the concert, giving fans another opportunity to see the pair perform together following their work in the Wicked films.

Grande and Erivo starred as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, in director Jon M. Chu's Wicked movies. Both actresses received Academy Award nominations for their performances after the first film was released.

The performance of "For Good" was especially fitting because of the song's importance to the relationship between Glinda and Elphaba. The emotional duet is one of the best-known songs from the stage musical and was also featured in Wicked: For Good, the second film in the series.

Erivo's appearance came during Grande's second night of an extended run at the O2 Arena. Grande is scheduled to perform 10 shows at the London venue as she brings the Eternal Sunshine Tour to a close. The final performance is set for Sept. 1.

The tour takes its name from Grande's seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine. The singer and actress has remained busy since releasing that album, later following it with her eighth studio album, Petal, which arrived July 31.

After the tour ends, Grande plans to take a break from public-facing work and appearances.

"She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny," her representative previously told PEOPLE.

The planned break came around the same time Grande's departure from the West End revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park With George was announced. She had been expected to star in the production alongside her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey.

Grande later addressed the decision during a concert, explaining that the break had been planned well before the announcement.

"Sometimes when a story comes out that's not directly from me, things can get a little blown out of proportion. So I just wanted to speak to my fans directly tonight because I love you so much. The announcement that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing," she told the audience. "It is something that I had decided to plan that I had quietly made a long time ago and it's a decision that was made from a thoughtful and empowered place."

For now, Grande will continue her London run through Sept. 1. The surprise reunion with Erivo gave Wicked fans another chance to see the two performers share the stage before Grande wraps up the tour.
