Traffic Signal Activated at Furys Ferry Road Intersection to Address Safety Issues

A traffic signal went live Wednesday at Furys Ferry Road and Blackstone Camp Road in Evans, Georgia. It replaced a four-way stop. The new signal should improve access along the roadway and into the subdivision on Colony Drive.

Traffic flow mattered. So did safety. Kelly McDaniel, project engineer, said the signal fixes a safety concern at this spot.

"No longer do they have to start out there in the middle of the traffic," McDaniel said, per WRDW. "And we've had so many accidents at this point, at this stop here. It should provide them a better idea of exactly how good the final product will be for them."

Crashes happened here. A lot of them. Drivers had to push through traffic at the four-way stop, which created hazards for those entering and exiting.

McDaniel said the new system gives motorists a clearer picture of how the finished work will function once construction ends. The traffic light marks a step toward wrapping up the road expansion.

This new light is one piece of a bigger construction project along Furys Ferry Road, which stretches from Evans to Lock Road up to the Savannah River.

When crews finish, the road will be widened to four lanes. Officials hope the project wraps up by year's end. The four-lane expansion will extend connectivity from the city limits through to Lock Road.

Officials expect the wider roadway to handle more vehicles. The project should be done by December 2026.
