Augusta Choral Society Announces 2026-2027 Season With Works From Baroque to Modern Era

The Augusta Choral Society unveiled its 2026-2027 concert season after celebrating 75 years. Performances will span centuries, moving from Baroque masters Henry Purcell, George Frideric Handel and J.S. Bach through to contemporary voices John Rutter and Morten Lauridsen.

Dr. Marcel Ramalho serves as Artistic Director and Conductor. He wants this season to "bridge generations, styles, and countries," according to The Augusta Chronicle. December brings Conrad Susa's Three Mystical Carols—seldom heard outside specialist circles.

Women composers get prominent placement. October features Marianna Martines' Dixit Dominus, while March showcases Amy Beach's Festival Jubilate.

This symphonic chorus calls Sacred Heart Cultural Center and St. Paul's Church home, both in downtown Augusta.

Bach's Cantata No. 140, "Wachet Auf" (Sleepers, Awake!), launches the season Oct. 17. Come Dec. 12, audiences will hear the Christmas portions of Handel's Messiah, plus other seasonal works.

March 6 brings John Rutter's Requiem. A final performance arrives in May, right before Memorial Day, and will present Randall Thompson's Alleluia.
