Shaboozey Says Beyoncé’s Support Became a Real Friendship

Shaboozey says his appearance on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter became more than a career milestone. The collaboration also helped build a lasting friendship between the two artists.

The 31-year-old country star told GQ that Beyoncé has continued to support him since he appeared on her Grammy-winning album, offering encouragement as his career has grown.

“I honestly consider her a really good friend at this point. Anytime there’s anything going on, she’s always sending congratulations, posting me on the page, always celebrating my accomplishments,” he told the outlet. “We need that.”

Shaboozey said he was recently reminded of the importance of people supporting one another and believes Beyoncé consistently shows that kind of encouragement.

“She’s really someone who does that every step of the way,” he said.

Shaboozey was featured on two songs from Cowboy Carter: “Spaghettii” and “Sweet Honey Buckiin.” He said working on the project came with some personal challenges because of Beyoncé’s reputation as a vocalist and performer.

“When I was recording the songs on her album, [I was like], ‘Oh man, I can’t do these runs’ or ‘I am nowhere near the vocalist, performer or anything Beyoncé is.’ And I kind of got in my head about that,” he said.

Shaboozey explained that he was encouraged to focus on his own strengths rather than compare himself to Beyoncé.

“What they told me was, ‘Hey, we brought you here for you to do you, for you to be yourself.’ Just be confident in the fact that you are different, you are unique and that’s what people are going to resonate with.”

He also previously praised Beyoncé’s dedication and personality during a 2025 interview with the Cincinnati Enquirer, where he described her as a “God.”

“Seeing someone at that level still kind of giving it their all, putting on a hell of a show. But also, she’s just very warm and inviting, very welcoming,” he said. “It’s like family to me, honestly. It was awesome. She’s a legend. We grew up listening to her on the radio all the time.”

Following the success of his recent work, Shaboozey is continuing to expand his artistic vision with his cinematic concept album The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales. The project features collaborations with Jamie Foxx, Teyana Taylor, Sam Elliott and others.

In his interview with GQ, Shaboozey said he wants to create music that goes beyond traditional albums and leaves a lasting impact. He pointed to artists and creators such as George Lucas, Roger Waters and Prince as inspirations.

“It’s really, really important to continue to push what I could be as an artist, especially in today’s music scene. We don’t find a lot of those,” he said. “Pink Floyd’s The Wall is one of my favorite albums. It produced hits like ‘Hey You’ and ‘Another Brick in the Wall,’ but it also came with this movie component. I really felt that as a storyteller, as someone who wants to push the boundaries, why not make a concept album?”

As Shaboozey continues developing his sound and storytelling approach, he says the support and guidance from artists like Beyoncé have helped him remain confident in his own creative path.
