Tate McRae Declines Political Label, Points to Tour Support for LGBTQ+ Groups

Tate McRae pushed back against claims that she supports one particular political party. Instead of talking about her politics, she pointed to her support for LGBTQ+ groups and women's organizations. The Canadian pop star tackled the questions in a new interview with Variety.

"I like to say my piece through organizations I support and the environment that I have on tour," the 23-year-old said. "I think it's pretty obvious what kind of person I am and the things I support. And I hope that my fans can see that through the things that I'm putting my energy towards."

Questions about her political stance came up after she released "What I Want" with Morgan Wallen in May 2025. The country singer faced backlash in 2021 when TMZ posted a video of him using a racial slur. He later apologized, attended rehab, and donated to the Black Music Action Coalition.

McRae's rumored connection with NHL player Jack Hughes also triggered talk. Hughes visited the White House with the US men's hockey team after earning a gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics. He watched President Donald Trump deliver his State of the Union address.

"Everything is so political. We're athletes. We're so proud to represent the US, and we get the chance to go to the White House and meet the president," Hughes said to the Daily Mail. "No matter what your views are, we're super excited to go." Wallen hasn't publicly endorsed Trump.

The "Sports Car" musician also discussed keeping her personal life private in the interview. "I try to keep my relationships as sacred and private as possible," she told Variety. "I love the people in my life. They love me. You just try to keep that circle as positive and supportive as possible. And the outside noise, I can't do anything about that."
