Stella Lefty used her Lollapalooza debut to break some news of her own. The country-pop singer, headlining a Chicago hometown crowd of more than 12,000 fans Sunday, told the audience her first full album, Long Way Home, arrives Aug. 21. A lead single, "Lean In, Kiss Me," lands two weeks earlier, on Aug. 7, when preorders and presaves also open.
Lefty explains, "I wanted to give you guys a little surprise because I thought there is no better audience to give a surprise to than a Chicago crowd, because obviously, Chicago crowds are the best crowds. Alright, I'm going to invite out my favorite person on the planet earth. His name is Vincent Mason, so give it up for Vincent Mason!"
That introduction brought her boyfriend, country artist Vincent Mason, onstage for a duet of "Something to Lose," giving the set a second headline moment alongside the album reveal.
The Chicago stop carried extra weight for the singer, who grew up in nearby Glencoe, Illinois, and has attended Lollapalooza as a fan since she was 15. Performing there herself for the first time, she tied the new album's theme directly to that history.
During her high-profile set, the "Boston" hitmaker shared, "I feel like it just makes so much sense to tell you, guys, something that I haven't told anybody else...because I feel at home here and at home with you guys. And so I kind of want to just tell you that my album comes out on Aug. 21. So I hope you guys like the album; it's called Long Way Home, and it's about the journey of coming back here."
Long Way Home arrives on the heels of a rapid rise. Lefty's May EP, Is This Heaven?, introduced her viral single "Boston" and helped push her career into overdrive; the 23-year-old has since racked up more than 370 million career streams, over a billion cross-platform views, a sold-out headline tour, and a buzzed-about run at CMA Fest. Whether the new album folds in EP tracks such as "Boston" and "I Know I Know," or arrives as a set of entirely new material, is still unknown.
