Keke Palmer Steps In as ‘The Voice’ Host While Carson Daly Takes a New Role

If there is one thing Keke Palmer knows how to do, it's keep an audience entertained. Whether she's acting, singing, hosting, or making fans laugh online, Palmer has built a reputation for being ready for just about anything. Now she's adding another big role to her growing list by becoming the new host of The Voice.

NBC announced on Tuesday, Aug. 4, that season 31 of The Voice will look very different from previous seasons. The long-running singing competition is introducing a celebrity edition packed with famous faces, behind-the-scenes access, and a few surprising changes. One of the biggest? After hosting the show since it first premiered, Carson Daly is stepping back from his on-camera role while Palmer takes center stage.

“That’s right. It’s true. I’m hosting The Voice. I’ll see you guys there,” Palmer, 32, said in a video on Instagram.

For many fans, Daly has always been part of The Voice. He has hosted every season since the competition debuted, making him one of the show's most recognizable faces. While he won't be hosting the new celebrity edition, he isn't saying goodbye.

Daly will continue working behind the scenes as a producer, helping guide the newest version of the series as it prepares for its 2027 debut. His continued involvement means the show will still have one of its longtime leaders helping shape its future, even if viewers won't see him introducing contestants each week.

Instead of searching for undiscovered singers, The Voice: Celebrity is giving well-known personalities a chance to show off their vocal talents. The new format "swaps undiscovered talent for a wide range of celebrities" including actors, influencers, athletes, comedians and reality TV stars. The contestants will compete to become the first celebrity champion.

That change could make every episode even more unpredictable. Viewers may already know the contestants from movies, sports, television, or social media, but many of them will be stepping outside their comfort zones to perform in front of the coaches.

The coaching panel is also getting a fresh mix of talent. Joe Jonas will make his coaching debut alongside returning coaches Queen Latifah and Riley Green. Jonas has spent years performing on some of the world's biggest stages as part of the Jonas Brothers and as a solo artist, making this his first opportunity to mentor singers on the hit competition.

Before the season even begins, Jonas and Palmer are already showing off some playful chemistry.

To celebrate his arrival, The Voice shared a humorous video on social media featuring Jonas creating a guest list and jokingly leaving Palmer off of it.

“New head of security 🤝 new Coach! Joe Jonas joins The Voice Season 31 coming in 2027 on NBC,” the caption read.

It's the kind of lighthearted moment fans have come to expect from Palmer, who is known for matching jokes with quick wit and never taking herself too seriously.

The celebrity edition is also giving viewers a closer look at what happens before contestants walk onto the stage.

A new feature called Voice Boot Camp will follow celebrities as they prepare for their Blind Auditions, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at rehearsals, coaching, and nerves before the performances begin.

Another addition, the VIP Room, will bring contestants together so they can watch the Blind Auditions unfold in real time. Later in the competition, the Workroom will offer another window into the process as artists strategize, rehearse, and prepare for the Battle rounds.

These new features are designed to let viewers experience more of the competition instead of only seeing what happens on stage.

Daly made it clear that he believes Palmer is the right person to lead this new chapter.

In an Instagram post celebrating The Voice: Celebrity, he called Palmer a “triple threat queen” who is the “perfect” person to serve as the host of the new series.

“I’m so grateful she carved out the time in her busy career to help us out. 🙏We’re all big fans & welcome her to the family,” he wrote in part.

He also reassured longtime viewers that he isn't leaving the franchise. After hosting every episode for 30 seasons across 16 years, Daly said he will continue producing The Voice: Celebrity and will be “helping it launch from behind the scenes.”

Before fans meet the celebrity contestants, however, there is still another season to enjoy. Season 30 of The Voice premieres Sept. 21 with Queen Latifah, Riley Green, Kelly Clarkson, and Adam Levine serving as coaches. Then, in 2027, the series will open a brand-new chapter with Keke Palmer leading the way as host and celebrities hoping to prove they have what it takes to become the show's very first celebrity champion.
