Nicki Minaj rolled out a paid subscription on the social media platform X. It costs $10 each month. Fans get access to content they can't see anywhere else. The rapper told her 26.6 million followers in a post that started, "I finally did it."
She called the paid tier a space where fans could laugh and argue. They could get emotional. Be themselves. No noise from the open timeline interrupting them. Subscribers receive posts made just for them, X Spaces that only they can join, and a badge appearing next to their names when they interact with her.
The "Super Bass" rapper said in the post that it's for people who "wanna have fun, think deeper, grow, learn, laugh, cry... look cute sometimes, be yourself at all times… elevate, levitate, meditate."
The subscription page displayed 1,100 paying members during its opening days. At $10 per person, that adds up to about $11,000 monthly. That's roughly $132,000 each year if numbers stay the same.
The service operates through X Creator Subscriptions. X takes no cut of its own. Creators keep up to 97 percent of what comes in, with the rest going to Apple and Google app store fees and payment processing. Once a creator earns $50,000 over their lifetime, the rate falls to 90%.
At current volume, she's bringing in somewhere around $10,000 monthly from the paid tier before taxes get taken out. Every new subscriber means recurring money instead of a one-time payment.
The badge feature might drive the most value for her fanbase. It transforms her replies into a room where paying fans stand apart from everyone else. For the Barbz, being seen by her has been the currency.
Reactions to the launch? They're mixed. Some praised the rapper for discovering another way to interact with her fans. Others wondered if the content justifies the monthly fee. But it was mainly positive.
This marks the first time the artist has offered a paid subscription tier. She has a massive following on the platform. The addition also comes as more creators turn to subscription models for direct fan monetization.
