Just days after news spread that Ariana Grande plans to step back from public visibility later this year, many fans wondered how she was feeling. Instead of letting rumors do the talking, Grande addressed the crowd herself during her Eternal Sunshine Tour stop at Chicago's United Center on Monday, Aug. 3. Her message was calm, heartfelt, and centered on the people who have supported her through it all.

While the future may include a quieter life away from the spotlight, Grande made it clear that, for now, the music and the connection she shares with her fans remain front and center.

Ariana Grande Sets the Record Straight

Over the weekend, Grande's representative told PEOPLE that the singer is "taking a step back from visibility" once her current run of Eternal Sunshine Tour dates wraps up in September. The announcement quickly sparked conversations online, with many fans wondering what prompted the decision.

Grande used her Chicago concert to clear up any misunderstandings before continuing with the show.

“The announcement that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing. It is something that I had decided to plan,” Grande said, adding that she made the plan “quietly, a long time ago.”

She also pushed back against the idea that online criticism or negativity had influenced her decision.

“No matter what noises exist out there, nothing will be able to distort my reality or be more real to me or not as real to me as this love that we share,” Grande told her audience.

Her words drew loud applause from the crowd, many of whom had been waiting to hear directly from the singer herself.

A Tour That Means More Than Concerts

Grande reflected on what the Eternal Sunshine Tour has meant to her personally, describing it as much more than a series of performances.

As she wrapped up her speech, she called the tour “one of the most healing, beautiful, correct and special experiences” of her life.

“That felt good,” she said before resuming the show. “I wish that words were enough to articulate how much I love you.”

The emotional moment reminded fans that, despite the excitement of sold-out arenas and chart-topping songs, the relationship between an artist and their audience can often become the most meaningful part of a tour.

Looking Ahead

Before taking the stage, Grande shared her excitement with fans on Instagram Stories, posting a performance clip with a simple but enthusiastic message.

“See you tonight, my sweethearts!!! I cannot wait and love you so,” she wrote in text displayed over the video.

The Eternal Sunshine Tour continues with two more performances in Chicago before heading overseas. Grande is then scheduled to perform 10 shows at London's O2 Arena through Sept. 1.

Although she plans to take a step back from public visibility after the tour ends, Grande's latest performance showed that she intends to finish this chapter the same way she started it: with honesty, gratitude, and plenty of music.
