Ariana Grande Plans Well Earned Break After Wrapping Eternal Sunshine Tour

After months of dazzling crowds with high-energy performances, Ariana Grande is preparing for something much quieter. Once the final show of her Eternal Sunshine tour wraps in London on Sept. 1, the pop superstar plans to step away from the public eye for a while.

The decision comes as public conversation about Grande's health and appearance has continued to grow, something her team says has taken a toll despite the success of the tour.

A representative for Grande shared with PEOPLE, “Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour.”

“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” the rep continued. “This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”

Even though Grande is preparing for a break, those close to her say she is fully focused on giving fans the best performances possible until the tour comes to an end.

A source close to Grande told PEOPLE of the singer, “She performs a very physical show, and there is a lot of athleticism involved. She performs healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night.”

The Eternal Sunshine tour began in June in Oakland, California, and has traveled across the United States with stops in cities including Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York City. Grande is set to finish her U.S. dates this week in Chicago before heading overseas for a final run of performances in London.

The tour marked her long-awaited return to live concerts after spending several years focusing on acting and recording new music. During that time, she starred as Glinda in the film adaptations of Wicked, introducing herself to a new generation of moviegoers while continuing to build on her music career.

Grande's break will also mean she is no longer attached to another major production.

The outlet also reported that she will not appear in the upcoming West End revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George, which was scheduled to open next summer at London's Barbican Centre. Her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey is still expected to lead the production.

Grande's physical appearance has been the subject of public discussion for several years, with comments about her body regularly appearing across social media.

The conversation intensified again after the release of the music video for her latest single, "Petal," from her recently released album of the same name on July 31. A quick look through the video's online comments shows many people discussing her appearance instead of the music itself.

The artist addressed those conversations before and has repeatedly pushed back against people commenting on her body.

In her song "Yes, And?" from her 2024 album Eternal Sunshine, Grande sings, “My face is sitting, I don’t need no disguise / Don’t comment on my body, do not reply / Your business is yours, and mine is mine.”

Although Grande is taking a break from public appearances after the tour, fans will not have to wait long to see her on screen again.

She is set to star in Focker-in-Law, the newest chapter in the beloved Meet the Parents comedy franchise alongside Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Nov. 25.

For now, though, Grande appears ready to trade bright stage lights for some well-earned downtime. After months of demanding performances and constant attention, her next act is simply taking time for herself.
