Georgia Bulldogs Reload for 2027 After Record-Breaking MLB Draft Exodus

Georgia baseball saw 13 players leave for the 2026 MLB Draft. The program brought in 11 transfers to fill roster holes before the 2027 season. That draft haul shattered every record at the school and took away several All-SEC performers.

Four transfer commitments came in on one Monday. The coaching staff called it a "reload, not rebuild" plan. Pitchers, catchers, and middle infielders were at the top of the shopping list to replace starters.

Day 1 of the draft took three Bulldogs. Day 2 pulled more from the roster that made the College World Series in 2026.

Daniel Jackson, the Golden Spikes winner led the exodus. Nine other Bulldogs signed pro contracts after hearing their names called.

Head coach David Perno won't budge on expectations despite the losses. "We lost a lot of great players to the draft, but we're not lowering the bar for Georgia baseball," said Perno, per the AJC.

The old school record? Way below 13. Summer turned into a second recruiting sprint.

Some drafted players chose school over signing. Those returners give the staff a core group that knows what Omaha feels like.

The MLB draft deadline sorted stayers from pro signees. Coaches then locked in scholarship numbers and depth charts for fall camp.

The transfer group includes arms with college innings and catchers who handle different jobs. Several signees are taking part in team workouts now.

The program wants to chase a national title in 2027. Coaches will mix veterans from the College World Series run with top freshmen and transfers to keep expectations high.

The Omaha trip raised draft stock for departing players. It also drew portal and prep recruits to the 2027 roster.
