Antwon Wade will throw a grand opening party for his second Smoothie King shop on Saturday, Aug. 1, from noon to 2 p.m. You'll find it in Eisenhower Crossing at 3970 Harper Franklin Blvd., close to Fort Gordon.
"We are beyond excited about this new opportunity to serve another section of our community, especially Fort Gordon," Wade said in a news release, per Augusta Good News. A ribbon cutting will take place during the celebration.
Wade spent 24 years in the Army. He retired in 2016. The mission to inspire people to lead active and healthy lives pushed him to start a franchise with the company.
His first shop at the Villages at Riverwatch opened in April 2024. This new spot is his second in the area.
Steve Kuhnau started the chain in 1973 in Kenner, Louisiana. He couldn't handle the dairy and additives in regular milkshakes, so he created his own. Real fruit and real protein became the foundation for recipes built around how he wanted to feel after drinking them, according to the company website.
The business has grown to more than 1,300 spots worldwide since its founding. The menu includes smoothies plus food like flatbread sandwiches, chicken bites, and fruit and yogurt bowls.
The grand opening will run for two hours on Saturday afternoon at the Harper Franklin Boulevard address.
