Augusta has a full slate of family-friendly events this week, from science and art to hometown dining traditions. Families can meet ecology scientists and live animals at Science Saturday, join Top Dawg Tavern's annual Family Day with characters and games, or turn mail into art at the Morris Museum of Art's postcard-painting event. Whether it's a weekend outing or an afternoon activity, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Science Saturday - Presented by Savannah River Ecology Lab

  • What: Meet ecology lab scientists and live animals
  • When: Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 12 p.m.
  • Where: Riverview Park Activities Center, 100 Riverview Park Drive, #Suite 200, North Augusta
  • Cost: Free

The Savannah River Ecology Laboratory will open its doors to the public for Science Saturday, a free, family-friendly event at the Riverview Park Activities Center in North Augusta. Attendees can meet lab scientists and get hands-on with live reptiles, amphibians, insects, and plants. The event is open to all ages, and parking is free. As space is limited, timed-entry tickets are required. The lab encourages attendees to follow its social media accounts for sneak peeks at the animals and activities planned.

Family Day at Top Dawg Tavern in Augusta

  • What: Family Day featuring characters, face painting, and games
  • When: Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Where: Top Dawg Tavern, 2821 Washington Road, Augusta
  • Cost: Free admission; food and beverages available for purchase

Top Dawg Tavern will host its annual Family Day, packing the lunch hour with activities for kids and parents. Guests can meet costumed characters for photos and autographs, get their faces painted, enter a coloring contest, and participate in additional games. The restaurant will also offer $6 kids' meals, which include a side, a drink, and ice cream.

Artrageous! Family Sunday: Pretty as a Postcard

  • What: Paint postcards for summer pen pals
  • When: Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where: Morris Museum of Art, 1 10th St., Augusta
  • Cost: Free

The Morris Museum of Art in Augusta will host Artrageous! Family Sunday: Pretty as a Postcard, a free event inviting families to slow down and turn snail mail into art. Participants can paint and decorate their own postcards to send to new friends and pen pals made over the summer.

Augusta's live music scene is in full swing this week, with shows spanning indie, hip-hop, and electric string performances. Fans have their pick of an intimate record store show, a headline hip-hop performance, and an outdoor candlelight concert.
