Just over a year later, that dream has become reality. The South African star now has her very own Bratz doll, proving that sometimes the biggest milestones begin with a simple wish and a little confidence.
On July 27, Bratz officially introduced the Tyla Collector Doll, making the Grammy-winning singer the latest celebrity to join the iconic fashion doll brand. For the artist, hearing the news was something she'll never forget.
Getting the call was "a moment I'll never forget."
A Childhood Favorite Comes Full Circle
Before she became an international music sensation, Tyla was already a devoted Bratz fan. To celebrate the launch, she met with fans at New York City's FAO Schwarz, where a lucky group of collectors got their hands on the doll ahead of its official release. The event also arrived just in time for the release of her new album APop*, making the celebration even sweeter.
The artist recently shared with PEOPLE just how much Bratz meant to her growing up.
"I used to put on Bratz to fall asleep. It's just my comfort movie," Tyla told the outlet.
The Bratz franchise expanded beyond dolls with an animated television series that premiered in 2005, along with several movies that became favorites for many young fans. For Tyla, they became part of her childhood, making this collaboration feel especially meaningful.
She also didn't hesitate when asked what makes her the perfect fit for the Bratz world.
"The most Bratz-coded thing about me is girl, everything. I'm a fashionista."
Bringing an Iconic Fashion Moment to Life
That passion for fashion played a huge role in the doll's design. Rather than choosing just any outfit, Bratz recreated Tyla's unforgettable custom Balmain sand gown from her 2024 Met Gala debut. The dramatic look quickly became one of the defining fashion moments of the night, making it the obvious choice for the collectible.
"We really wanted a look that stood the test of time, and people could immediately recognize as one of her major moments," shared Jasmin Larian Hekmat, creative director and president of Bratz and daughter of MGA Entertainment founder and CEO Isaac Larian, as reported by PEOPLE.
Creating celebrity dolls involves much more than copying an outfit. Every detail has to capture the person's personality while becoming something fans will treasure for years.
"When we make a doll in someone's likeness, we really want them to feel like it's something that they'll remember forever," she continued, adding that she knew Tyla was a "star" as soon as she saw her perform.
Every Detail Matters
The finished doll looks unmistakably like Tyla. It includes her signature beauty mark, carefully crafted braided hairstyle, and accessories that reflect both her music and personal style.
The braids, however, turned out to be one of the biggest design challenges.
They were "super hard to execute" because they were made with "actual braids attached to the rooting of the doll's head," said Larian Hekmat, who is also the mind and visionary behind the fashion brand Cult Gaia.
The collectible also includes a concert-inspired outfit change, a miniature vinyl copy of the TYLA album, and a tiger, which serves as a tribute to Tyla's loyal fanbase.
More Than Just a Celebrity Collaboration
Tyla joins a growing list of stars who have partnered with Bratz, including Karol G and Kylie Jenner. According to Larian Hekmat, though, choosing collaborators is about much more than fame.
"We always ask, are they doing something super cool, super different? Are they thinking out of the box? Are they owning who they are authentically?"
That approach helps explain why Tyla felt like such a natural addition. Since breaking through with "Water," she has blended music, fashion, and her South African roots into a style that stands out in today's pop landscape.
A Dream Worth Chasing
For Tyla, the journey from tweeting about her dream to seeing it sitting on store shelves is a reminder that goals can become reality. What began as a hopeful post on X has become one of the most personal milestones of her career, giving fans a collectible that celebrates both her music and the dream she manifested.
