Your next trip to CVS could help more than just the humans in your family.

CVS Health has announced that pet owners can now fill many common prescriptions for dogs and cats at CVS Pharmacy locations across the country. That means medications your veterinarian prescribes could be picked up alongside your own prescriptions and everyday essentials.

The new service includes select medications for multiple conditions. If your pet needs medication, your veterinarian can send the prescription directly to a CVS Pharmacy. Or, you can choose medications for conditions like infections, allergies, flea and tick prevention, diabetes, and pain management.

“We’re proud to be a trusted partner in our patients’ health care journeys,” said Sid Tenneti, Senior Vice President and Interim President, Pharmacy and Consumer Wellness, CVS Health. “With the addition of pet medication dispensing, CVS Pharmacy can now serve every member of the family. Combined with our convenient locations, extended hours, and broad range of health and wellness products, we offer a true one-stop destination for care.”

How It Works

If your pet needs medication, your veterinarian can send the prescription directly to a CVS Pharmacy, or you can bring in a written prescription. Once it's ready, you can pick it up at the store, and some medications may even qualify for home delivery. You can also choose medications for conditions like infections, allergies, flea and tick prevention, etc.

Pet owners can also add their pets to their CVS account to manage eligible prescriptions through the CVS app.

More Than Just Medications

CVS is also expanding its pet care offerings in stores. Along with prescription medications, shoppers can find pet food, treats, grooming supplies, flea and tick products, dental care items, toys, and other essentials for cats and dogs.

The company says its goal is to make caring for every member of the family, including four-legged ones, a little more convenient.

If you've ever made multiple stops to pick up prescriptions for both yourself and your pet, this new option could save time and make life a bit easier.
