Bad Bunny Band Member Performs Avicii Cover at Stockholm Concert

Bad Bunny honored Swedish DJ Avicii at Friends Arena in Stockholm on July 11. José Eduardo Santana, a band member, played "Wake Me Up" on a cuatro, a traditional Puerto Rican instrument with four double strings.

Fans joined in, singing every word. The stripped-down version echoed through the venue, and clips spread across social media within hours. Avicii released the original track in 2013 with Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger and singer Aloe Blacc.

The tribute recognized Avicii's death in 2018 at age 28. This moment arrived during the European stretch of Bad Bunny's Debí Tirar Más Fotos world tour, which has been packing stadiums. His latest album fueled the tour, and the shows will span Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Days before the Sweden show, the Puerto Rican star surprised London fans. At his second Tottenham Hotspur Stadium performance, Damon Albarn walked onstage. Together, they ripped through Gorillaz classics "Clint Eastwood" and "Tormenta," sending the crowd into a frenzy.

That pairing makes sense. Bad Bunny appeared on "Tormenta," part of the 2023 Gorillaz album, Cracker Island. Albarn mentioned their connection back in 2021, telling Warp magazine they'd worked together while both were in Jamaica.

NME awarded the London concert five stars. The review called it "a reminder of the power of community," adding that "the streets around the stadium feel like a carnival." His Super Bowl performance made history this year. The performance became the most-watched halftime show ever recorded. 

The Tomorrowland festival keeps Avicii's memory alive with its Avicii Tribute installation at Tomorrowland Belgium. Fans can also stream the late producer's Tomorrowland DJ sets. Bad Bunny will head to Warsaw, Milan, and Brussels before visiting Asia and Australia.
