Judge Rejects Milagro Gramz’s Bid to Delay $75K Payment to Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion is one step closer to receiving the $75,000 she was awarded in her defamation case against vlogger Milagro Gramz.

On Monday (June 29), Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga denied Gramz’s request to delay paying the judgment while she appeals the case, according to a decision reviewed and reported by Complex.

Earlier this month, Gramz, whose real name is Milagro Elizabeth Cooper, argued that paying the judgment now, or posting the full amount as a bond during the appeal, would hurt her financial security, according to the outlet.

In court filings, she said she is self-employed and that her income “fluctuate[s] from month to month.”

“I do not possess substantial liquid assets and do not have the financial resources necessary to immediately satisfy the judgment,” she wrote.

Judge Altonaga was not convinced. She said that “the Court has no reliable basis to evaluate Defendant’s finances,” adding there was no evidence that creditors Gramz owes money to “would be placed in undue jeopardy” if she paid the $75,000 now.

Gramz also argued that her appeal had a strong chance of succeeding because it raises “serious legal questions.”

The judge disagreed.

According to Judge Altonaga, Gramz “fails to show any likelihood of success.”

“She merely argues that her appeal concerns ‘significant issues . . . regarding post-trial rulings, the reinstatement of the defamation verdict, and other issues,’ without explaining why those matters are likely to resolve in her favor,” the judge continued. “Even if the Court considered those arguments, Defendant offers merely generalized disagreement with the jury’s verdict and the Court’s post-trial rulings, which is not a showing that she is likely to succeed on appeal.”

Last year, a jury found Gramz liable for working with Tory Lanez to defame Megan Thee Stallion and intentionally cause her emotional distress. The case included allegations that Gramz encouraged her followers to watch a sexually explicit deepfake video of the rapper. Megan was awarded $75,000 in damages.

Earlier this month, Gramz asked the court to pause enforcement of the judgment while she appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Describing herself as a "self-employed media commentator, researcher and content creator,” Gramz argued that she did not have the “financial resources necessary to immediately satisfy the judgment or post a full supersedeas bond.”

Less than two weeks later, attorneys for the Houston rapper urged the court to reject the request.

They described Gramz as someone “who showed no hesitation when she broadcast that Plaintiff was a liar, directed her audience to a deep-fake pornographic video of Plaintiff, and threatened to run Plaintiff over with a car, now pleads for the Court’s solicitude so that she may avoid the consequences of a jury’s verdict and this Court’s judgment.”
