T-Pain would like to make one thing very clear: he is not a soccer player.
Yet somehow, the rapper and singer found himself at the center of a FIFA-related social media mix-up over the weekend, thanks to a series of mistaken tags from DoorDash’s X account.
The two-time Grammy winner, best known for hits like “I’m Sprung,” was tagged not once, not twice, but nine separate times in posts related to soccer. The confusion was especially odd because T-Pain had absolutely nothing to do with the sport and was busy performing at Red Rocks while it was happening.
T-Pain Responds to the Confusion
After being repeatedly pulled into football conversations he had nothing to do with, T-Pain decided to speak up.
“What exactly do you want me to do?” he wrote in response to one such X post.
The accidental tags kept coming, leading the artist to react again.
“Who do you think you’re tagging?” he said when reacting to another.
As the situation dragged on, T-Pain leaned into the humor. He joked that whoever was responsible for the repeated tagging was likely to “shit a brick” once they realized the mistake.
Still, after being tagged over and over, he eventually became more direct.
“Are you all okay???” he asked. “Stop tagging me in these soccer posts.”
The Mix-Up Explained
The error appears to have stemmed from confusion between T-Pain and Tim Payne, the New Zealand soccer player. DoorDash was reportedly trying to tag Payne during FIFA World Cup-related celebrations but repeatedly tagged the musician instead.
Once the mistake became impossible to ignore, DoorDash acknowledged the blunder.
“To everyone who saw my tweets last night… no you didn’t,” reads an X post shared by the company in the aftermath of the confusion on Monday (June 22).
While the social media mishap created plenty of laughs online, it also gave T-Pain an unexpected new role for the weekend: accidental soccer commentator.
